FAS (Free Alongside Ship)
Also called: Free Alongside Ship
An Incoterms rule for sea and inland waterway transport under which the seller delivers the goods, cleared for export, alongside the vessel nominated by the buyer at the named port of shipment. Risk passes when the goods are alongside the ship, and the buyer arranges loading and carriage.
In practice
FAS is mostly used for bulk and heavy cargo, not containers, because containers are delivered to terminals rather than alongside ships.
