HS codes and customs tariffs, compared
Every product traded across a border has an HS code. This site lists all 96 chapters, 1,228 headings and 5,612 subheadings of the Harmonized System, with the national lines of four tariffs: the EU Combined Nomenclature, the Turkish Customs Tariff Schedule, the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States and the UK Global Tariff.
For each subheading you see the duty rates side by side and who exported and imported the goods in 2024, from the CEPII BACI trade database (225 countries).

How HS codes work
The first six digits are the same everywhere: two for the chapter, two more for the heading, two more for the subheading. Each country then adds its own digits for duty and statistics: the EU uses 8 (CN code), Türkiye 12 (GTİP), the United States 8 for the duty rate and 10 for statistics (HTS), the UK 10 (commodity code).
A code is chosen by the General Rules for the Interpretation of the Harmonized System and the legal notes of each section and chapter, which you find on every chapter page.
What the rates mean
The rates shown are the standard third-country duties: what an importer pays when no trade agreement or preference applies. Preferential rates, anti-dumping and countervailing duties, quotas, excise and VAT come on top or instead, depending on the origin of the goods.
