CPT (Carriage Paid To)
Also called: Carriage Paid To
An Incoterms rule for any mode of transport under which the seller pays carriage to the named place of destination, but risk passes to the buyer when the goods are handed to the first carrier. The seller clears the goods for export but not for import.
In practice
Because risk passes early while the seller pays freight, the point of delivery and the destination should both be named clearly in the contract.
