FCA (Free Carrier)

Also called: Free Carrier

An Incoterms rule under which the seller hands the goods, cleared for export, to the carrier or another person nominated by the buyer at an agreed place, either the seller's premises or another named point. Risk passes to the buyer at that moment, and the buyer pays the main carriage.

In practice

FCA is often a better fit than FOB for containers, because the seller's risk ends when the container is handed over at the terminal rather than when loaded on board.
