Export Administration Regulations
Also called: EAR · BIS regulations
The US regulations administered by the Bureau of Industry and Security that control exports, re-exports and in-country transfers of commercial and dual-use items, software and technology. Items are classified by ECCN on the Commerce Control List, and licence requirements depend on the item, destination, end user and end use.
In practice
The EAR can apply to items outside the US, including foreign-made products with US content or technology, so non-US companies also need to check it.
