ECCN
Also called: Export Control Classification Number · EAR99
The five-character code under which items are listed in the US Commerce Control List, such as 3A001 or 5A002. Items subject to US export rules but not listed are designated EAR99. EU dual-use control list entries use a similar numbering system.
In practice
The ECCN determines licensing needs for each destination, and US rules can follow US-origin items and technology even after they are re-exported from another country.
