Proforma invoice
Also called: proforma fatura
A preliminary invoice issued before a sale is completed, used for quotations, import permits, letters of credit or shipments without a sale such as samples. When used for customs it must state a realistic value even if no payment is due.
In practice
A proforma invoice with a nominal value for free goods can lead to valuation disputes, because customs still values the goods at a realistic amount.
