Smuggling

Also called: customs fraud · kaçakçılık

Bringing goods into or out of a customs territory in breach of customs law, for example by hiding them, avoiding customs offices or using false documents to evade duties or prohibitions. In Türkiye it is a criminal offence under the Law on Combating Smuggling No. 5607; other jurisdictions have similar criminal provisions.

In practice

Serious misdeclaration can be treated as smuggling rather than an administrative error, with criminal consequences for the people involved.
