Liquidation

Also called: final duty determination

CBP's final computation of the duties and fees owed on a US entry, normally about 314 days after entry. After liquidation, duty differences are billed or refunded, and the importer may challenge the result by filing a protest within 180 days.

In practice

Until liquidation the entry can still be corrected, and refunds from court rulings or exclusions often depend on whether entries are unliquidated.
