Pre-shipment inspection
Also called: PSI · inspection certificate
An inspection of goods in the exporting country before shipment, carried out by an independent inspection company, to verify quality, quantity, price or classification. Some importing countries require it by law, and buyers often require it by contract or under a letter of credit.
In practice
Where an importing country requires PSI, goods shipped without the certificate can be refused clearance or fined.
