Customs territory
Also called: customs area
The geographical area in which a single set of customs rules and a single tariff apply. The EU customs territory covers the member states with some listed exceptions and additions, while Türkiye, the UK and the US each have their own national customs territory.
In practice
Whether goods are inside or outside the customs territory decides whether duties are due at all, which matters for free zones, offshore installations and special territories.
