FDA prior notice
Also called: prior notice of imported food
Advance notification to the US Food and Drug Administration of food, including animal feed and dietary supplements, intended for import into the US, required under the Bioterrorism Act. It must be filed within set time windows before arrival depending on the transport mode, and food arriving without it can be refused or held.
In practice
Missing prior notice is one of the most common reasons food shipments are held at US ports.
