MFN duty
Also called: most-favoured-nation duty · third-country duty · conventional duty · NTR rate · General rate
The normal duty a WTO member applies to imports from other WTO members unless a preference or special measure applies. In the EU it is called the third-country or conventional duty, in the US the General or normal trade relations rate. It is the benchmark against which preferential savings are measured.
In practice
If you cannot prove preferential origin, the MFN rate is what you pay, so it sets the value of keeping origin documents in order.
