Repayment and remission
Also called: refund of duty · remission · iade ve kaldırma
The return of duty already paid, or the waiver of duty not yet paid, in cases set by law, such as amounts overcharged, defective goods rejected by the buyer, errors by the authorities or special situations. Applications must be lodged within deadlines, generally three years in the EU.
In practice
Overpayments due to wrong classification or missed preferences can often be recovered, but only if the claim is made in time.
