Sea waybill
Also called: SWB · non-negotiable waybill
A non-negotiable transport document for sea carriage that serves as a receipt for the goods and evidence of the contract of carriage, but is not a document of title. The goods are delivered to the named consignee on identification, without surrender of an original document.
In practice
Sea waybills speed up delivery between trusted parties, but they are unsuitable when a bank needs title documents under a letter of credit.
