Section 301 duties

Also called: Section 301 tariffs · List 1-4

Additional US duties imposed under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974 in response to trade practices of a foreign country judged unreasonable or discriminatory. The best known cover a large share of imports from China in several lists, with rates that have been raised on certain strategic products. They are reported through chapter 99 numbers and apply on top of normal duty.

In practice

Product exclusions and rate changes are published regularly, so importers from China need to check the current chapter 99 status of each HTS line.
