Verified gross mass
Also called: VGM · SOLAS VGM
The total weight of a packed container, including cargo, packing and the container's tare, which the shipper must provide to the carrier and terminal before loading under the SOLAS Convention since 2016. It can be obtained by weighing the packed container or by weighing contents and adding the tare weight.
In practice
Containers without a VGM must not be loaded, so missing data can make cargo miss its vessel.
