CBAM
Also called: Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism · SKDM
An EU mechanism putting a carbon price on imports of iron and steel, aluminium, cement, fertilisers, hydrogen and electricity, mirroring the EU emissions trading system. After a reporting-only transitional period ending in 2025, the definitive period started on 1 January 2026, when imports above the threshold require authorised declarant status; certificate purchases for 2026 emissions follow from 2027.
In practice
Importers of covered goods need emissions data from non-EU producers, and suppliers in Türkiye and elsewhere must prepare that data to stay competitive.
