Customs declaration

Also called: declaration · gümrük beyannamesi · beyanname · entry

The act by which a person indicates, in the prescribed form, the customs procedure to be applied to goods and provides the data needed to apply it, such as classification, value, origin and parties. Declarations are now lodged electronically. Once accepted, the declarant is responsible for the accuracy of the data and the documents supporting it.

In practice

Errors in the declaration create liability for the declarant, which is why brokers ask importers for complete commercial documents and product data.
