Economic operator
Also called: trader · iktisadi operatör
A person who, in the course of business, is involved in activities covered by customs legislation, such as importing, exporting, transporting or storing goods under customs control. In the EU an economic operator established in the customs territory needs an EORI number before dealing with customs.
In practice
Many authorisations and simplifications are granted to the economic operator rather than to individual shipments, so its registration data must stay current.
