Customs control
Also called: customs checks
A specific act by customs to verify compliance, such as examining goods, checking documents or data, taking samples or auditing records. Controls are selected mainly by risk analysis and can take place before or after release.
In practice
Because controls can happen after release, importers must keep commercial records available for the statutory retention period.
