HS code
Also called: Harmonized System · HS · Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System
The six-digit product code of the Harmonized System, the international goods nomenclature maintained by the World Customs Organization and used by more than 200 economies. The first two digits give the chapter, four digits the heading and six digits the subheading. Countries add their own digits on top of the six-digit core to set duty rates and statistics.
In practice
Because the first six digits are shared worldwide, getting the HS code right is the starting point for duty rates, origin rules, licensing and trade statistics in every market you sell to.
