Importer's knowledge

Also called: importer's knowledge claim

A basis for claiming preference, available under some agreements such as the EU–UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement and the EU–Japan agreement, where the importer relies on its own information that the goods are originating instead of a statement from the exporter. The importer must be able to support the claim if asked.

In practice

It is useful for related-party trade where the importer already holds the production data.

Applies to: EUUK
