Proof of origin
Also called: origin evidence · menşe ispat belgesi
The document or statement that supports a claim to preferential origin at import. Depending on the agreement it is a certificate issued by authorities, such as EUR.1 or EUR-MED, or a statement on origin by the exporter, sometimes registered in REX. Proofs are generally valid for a limited period, often ten or twelve months.
In practice
A preference claim without the right proof for that agreement leads to MFN duty, and a proof that fails verification can mean back duty for years of imports.
