Market surveillance at the border
Also called: Regulation (EU) 2019/1020 · product compliance controls
The checks that customs and market surveillance authorities carry out on imported products before release, to stop goods that are unsafe or do not comply with product legislation such as CE marking rules. Under EU rules, many product types also need an economic operator established in the EU responsible for compliance.
In practice
Goods suspended for market surveillance cannot be released until the authority clears them, which can take weeks.
