Tariff suspension

Also called: autonomous tariff suspension · duty suspension

A full or partial waiver of normal duty for specific goods, usually raw materials, parts or components not available in sufficient quantity inside the customs territory. In the EU suspensions are adopted by Council regulation and reviewed regularly, and the UK and US have comparable schemes.

In practice

Manufacturers can apply for suspensions on inputs they cannot source locally, and a granted suspension benefits every importer of that product.
