EU–Türkiye customs union
Also called: Decision 1/95 · AB–Türkiye Gümrük Birliği
The customs union between the EU and Türkiye, in force since 31 December 1995 under Association Council Decision 1/95. It covers industrial goods and processed agricultural products, which move without duty when in free circulation, while basic agricultural products, coal and steel are covered by separate preferential arrangements. Türkiye aligns its external tariff for industrial goods with the EU.
In practice
Turkish exporters to the EU use A.TR for industrial goods but EUR.1 for agricultural and steel products, and Türkiye must align with EU trade measures, which affects third-country sourcing.
